Celebrate Contemporary Hawaiian Art - MAMO 2012

Maoli Arts Month (MAMO) is in its seventh year and continues to showcase the best Contemporary Hawaiian Fine Art available in Hawaii by showcasing both emerging and established artists at venues throughout Hawaii.

April 6-27: MAMo Gallery Exhibit, Wailoa Art Center- Hilo, Hawaii
May 4: MAMo Awardees Gallery Exhibit Opening and Reception, Kumu Kahua Theatre- Honolulu, Oahu
May 4: First Friday Gallery Walk, The Arts at Mark’s Garage- Honolulu, Oahu
May 17: Wearable Art Show, Hawaii Theatre- Honolulu, Oahu
May 19-20: 7th Annual Native Hawaiian Arts Market, Bishop Museum- Honolulu, Oahu
The PA’I Foundation sponsors the MAMo Wearable Art Show to raise funds to support Contemporary Hawaiian Artists.  This year, the MAMo Wearable Art Show will take place on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Hawai’i Theatre.  Doors open at 5:30 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm.  There will also be a silent auction before the show and a trunk show after the show is finished. Tickets are $20, $35.

The designers for 2012 are: Maile Andrade, Marques Marzan, Nita Pilago of Wahine Toa Designs, Harinani Orme, Danene and Pono Lunn of Manuheali’i, Carrington “Baba” Yap, and Keone Nunes.  There will also be a lua demonstration from Pā Ku’i-a-Lua and a special performance by hālau, Pua Ali’i ‘Ilima under the direction of nā kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Jeffrey Takamine.
