Artspace Kaka‘ako

Artspace is a nonprofit real estate development organization for the arts. Our mission is to create, foster, and preserve affordable space for artists and arts organizations. We have been invited by the PA'I Foundation (with funding from the Ford Foundation) to create an affordable artist housing project in Honolulu with space on the ground floor for the PA'I Cultural Arts Center. 

The kick-off event, Tuesday May 22nd 6-8 PM, at ARTS at Marks Garage, is a great time for artists to come and learn more about the projects that have been created in other cities and ask questions about our first project in Hawai'i. MAMO artists are making an impact on global art, as more people understand the magic of Hawaii and the contributions of contemporary artists in Hawaii this trend will continue to grow.  The logic of showcasing emerging and established contemprorary artists under joint exhibitions indicates we are on the right track and can only grow from here.  Congratulations to Maikai Tubbs, Abigail Romanchak, and Solomon Enos for paving a way to the future.  The contemporary Hawaiian Art movement continues to evolve.

MAMO opens at Marks Garage May 4, 2012

Maoli Arts Month MAMO is in its seventh year and continues to showcase emerging and established contemporary fine artists who are living and working in Hawaii.  The successful arts development model has gone full circle.  Harinani Orme and Solomon Enos were the first emerging artists when MAMO started and their careers skyrocketed because of the exposure at MAMO.  Today both artists have students in the MAMO show at Mark's Garage and it is very likely that their careers will grow.  You can see a preview of the show at Mydesignworks.com under Artists of Hawaii.  Don't miss the opening at 6:00 pm Friday, May 4, 2012 at Mark's Garage, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The seventh annual MAMo: Maoli Arts Month is a broad community-based effort to celebrate the depth, breadth, and diversity of the Native Hawaiian arts community, to create economic opportunities for Native Hawaiian artists and cultural practitioners by increasing their presence in museums and galleries, and to educate locals and visitors about Native Hawaiian art. We bridge Native Hawaiian cultural principles and values far beyond the shores of our ancestral homeland.
